Fifth House Ensemble brings Unexepected Motion to Constellation Chicago Tuesday September 17
The Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble is a versatile and dynamic group praised by the New York Times for its “conviction, authority, and finesse.” Having pioneered the art of narrative chamber music with its signature series Black Violet, The Weaver’s Tales, and In Transit, Fifth House’s innovative programs engage audiences through their connective programming and unexpected performance venues.
Fifth House Ensemble is defined by its limitless imagination and energy, and an insatiable desire to bring chamber music to audiences of all types. Harnessing the collaborative spirit of chamber music to create transformative cross-media performance experiences that bring together elements as diverse as storytelling, physical theater, graphic novels, and fashion design.
Fifth House Ensemble breathes life into their repertoire equally at home on the most prestigious stages and unexpected venues including aquariums, train stations, and bars.
Featuring the works of esteemed composers Johan Halvorsen and Heitor Villa-lobos alongside the music of modern trailblazers Jacob TV, Alex Shapiro, and Mason Bates, Unexpected Motion explores the ways in which musicians and composers create soundscapes that are seemingly continuous, without breaks or pauses. Duets of woodwinds and strings create the feeling of breathlessness with their ongoing dialogues, defying expectations of range, breath, and technical possibility. Alex Shapiro’s Perpetual Spark ignites the air, cascading through time without cease. Composer Jacob TV’s music, for the solo flute and the cello, tumbles incessantly with the aid of unexpected electronic sounds, an idea then expanded upon as Mason Bates paints the flowing Red River with his own dialogues between instruments and electronica.
Don’t miss this chance to see Fifth House Ensemble perform Unexpected Motion at Constellation Chicago performance space which includes two state of the art studios connected by a Full Bar!
This is a 21 and over event.
